Cross is back - LCXL ROUND 1, 17th September, Rockingham Forest Whs, West Glebe Park, Corby
The Cyclones were out in force at the first round of the newest Cx league -The Leicestershire league -with the inaugural event. A complex course at Weldon, Corby set up by Paul Beattie and his team from Rockingham Forest Wheelers.

A good mix of challenges, including steps, water, adverse cambers and the flats making racing fast for those of the 234 riders with the fitness!

A different format to the Central cx league, the first race was for u 9's - with 32 riders Jake Bird worked hard to get 3rd place and Charlie Guest came in 4th, but great work on a bike he hadn't even ridden before for Jackson in his first ever race coming in 14th and loving every minute of it!

Second race was u12s and Amelia put in a stunning performance to finish 3rd overall but FIRST girl more than half a minute ahead of the next girl and more than 2 minutes faster than her main rival for the last two seasons. With almost 30 young people in the race Eddie and Ruben also had great performances coming in 11th and 12th respectively and with a strong finish Tasmin came in 8th.

The u16 and u14 race had 29 racing on the full course Josh worked hard to come in 4th and Charlie S came in 10th in the u 16's. In the under 14's after an exhausting race Dominic came in 9th and Charlie C 11th to complete a great set of races for Cyclones.

With amazingly loud support from parents and friends Cyclones made a great first impression, there are 6 races in this new league and five needed to count.

But also representing Kettering were Charlie's dad Bryan Guest, Morgan's dad Greg Greasley in his first CX race on a borrowed bike, Jackson's dad Gary Carter following his son on his first cross race and Charlie's dad Jamie Stockham. Andy Brown and James Simon Boswell were also there racing and representing the Cyclones coaching team.

Central Cyclocross League, Round 1 --- Welwyn --- Saturday 23rd September
Great start to Central CX league today at Welwyn, always a great course. The Cyclones had a great start with Tas and Jake Competing in u 10's. Tas getting a great third she had battled the hills to beat off the other girls for and Jake had a furious race, sprinting up the hills and leaving all the older kids standing to come in 2nd. Very impressive.

U12's today saw a huge field of racers some excellent tactical racing by Amelia, saw her placed third. Amelia's stamina allowing her to pick off competitors one by one on the hills - definitely worth doing all that hill climbing practice last Monday. Eddie did Cyclones proud with a determination to ride every bit of the course, he slogged up that hill, it was a long course for the youngsters today.

Massive field for u14/u16 & novices today, the course had two double sets of hurdles -one half way up a hill, which certainly took its toll. Charlie C and Dominic had a fantastic battle against each other in u14's - they managed to take a lap each with Dom just taking it on the final lap -placing 11th and 12th, we also took Joel from WVCC as his Dad is doing a charity ride in France this week, he came in 18th with plenty of the field behind him so great racing for him too. In the U16's Josh came in 4th which was a good placing in this new category, Will raced cross for the first time today and had a great race. We even had KCC riders in novices today with Ian Bird and Mike Deely showing the youngsters some great techniques. And finally Andy had a great race later in the afternoon as well!

GHS (George Herbert Stancer) 10 at Sawtry = Saturday 9th September
Bethany Spencer and Josh Brown took part in the National GHS Youth TT Championship at Sawtry.
Josh Brown finished in 71st with a time of 25.37 and Bethany Spencer finished in 120th (17th Female) with a time of 29.53.

Kettering CC & Rocko Hill Climb --- Sunday 10th September --- by Gavin Hinxman
30 riders took part in Kettering cycling club's hill climb on Sunday 10th September held at Neville Holt in the Welland valley. The challenge actually involves scaling both sides of the hill from Drayton and then from Medbourne and both times are added together to decide the winner.
The weather conditions were fairly accommodating and although it was overcast with an autumn chill, the prevailing wind offered some assistance on the second leg.
The annual season closer has also become an inter-club challenge with our friends at Rockingham Forest Wheelers and this year the numbers were evenly matched with 14 riders from each club as well as Mac Carter from Welland Valley and (eventual joint winner) Jack Patmore from Wellingborough Cycles.
Tom Cockerill of RFW matched Jack's time of 3.43 to take the inter club honours with 14 year old Josh Brown (KCC) just 2 seconds behind and last year's champion Bryan Guest (KCC) came home in 3rd place at 3.57.
The inter club competition is decided by taking the fastest 10 riders from each club and allocating 20 points for the fastest rider, 19 points for second and so on.
Josh's ride was perhaps all the more impressive as it followed a sterling effort in the National Youths championship the day before where he clocked 25.37 in the 10m TT.
Equally impressive was the great effort from the juniors, Mac Carter from Welland Valley and Dominic Bell from the Cyclones who will soon be knocking those seconds off of the older guys.
Fastest lady (and the only lady to complete both legs) was Andrea Woollcott
